A Rosslare teenager has created an artwork exhibition which highlights a problem of rising concern for all these residing in coastal communities. Patrick Roche is a part of the Leaving Cert Utilized (LCA) group at Wexford Youthreach and for his challenge on a recent difficulty he selected to give attention to the impression of ocean air pollution on marine life the world over. Throughout his analysis Patrick found situations of whales being washed up on seashores in locations as far afield as Indonesia and Thailand, and nearer to dwelling in Italy and Scotland.

egardless of the place they have been positioned, all of the whales had one factor in widespread: they’d every ingested kilos of plastic within the water which, finally led to their demise. A useless sperm whale that washed up on a Scottish seaside had greater than 220 kilos of tangled netting, rope, plastic and different particles inside its abdomen, in line with an area whale analysis group. A pregnant whale washed up on the coast of Italy with 22kg of plastic inside its abdomen with the foetus was in a sophisticated state of composition.

So, along side his engineering trainer Martin Wickham, Patrick determined to create one thing which might spotlight the injury being achieved to whales and all sea-life. Utilizing an angle grinder and a drill he welded and painted a steel whale which he depicted diving right into a mattress of plastic. So good was his challenge that it was proudly on show at Wexford Library in the course of the festive interval, a becoming tribute for a chunk of artwork which underlines the significance of defending our marine atmosphere.
